9th Annual Saint Monica House Christmas Fundraiser

Every December, we collect items and cash donations; and donate a portion of all our Turkey sales to Saint Monica House, a local service organization that provides support, housing and community programs for pregnant young women and their children.

Every year, they post a wish-list of items that the young mothers could use, which you can download below. Item and money donations can be dropped off at Brady's or Saint Monica House.

Through the sale of our giant Toblerone bars, we've already raised over $800! Thanks to our generous doners!

Where do your holiday turkeys come from?

Many of our customers are looking for naturally-raised meats with no antibiotics or animal by-products. When asked about our turkeys, here is what our farmer had to say:

Thanks for your e-mail, we're happy to answer your questions.

Our birds are raised with a drug-free feed which is corn, soy and wheat-based. We include a probiotic in the feed that maintains a healthy balance of good bacteria in the digestive tract, thus helping the turkey to absorb nutrients from the feed more effectively.

The turkeys have the run of the barn, with plenty of south-facing windows. The fans are on a computer control to provide a constant flow of fresh air. We heat the barn with propane heaters as needed, but just recently have installed a solar wall outside that passively preheats the air before it's drawn into the barn, which in the long-term will significantly reduce our carbon footprint. The floors in the barn are covered with wood shavings which are continually replenished. We feel that the barn provides the ideal environment for the birds — lots of sunlight and fresh air being brought in as well as protecting the birds from extreme weather, predators and possible disease.

Rob Brady mentioned in a Brazilian business magazine

Recently one of our loyal customers, Leonardo Simon, was interviewed in a Brazilian business magazine named Epoca Negocios about his life as a professor at the University of Waterloo. Prof. Simon talked about his job and also gave a great introduction to the attractions and businesses of Waterloo Region. He also mentioned Rob, the only butcher in the area that knows how to cut beef picanha, a Brazilian roast and one of Prof. Simon's favourite meats.

Special thanks to Epoca Negocios, Editora Globo S/A and of course, Prof. Simon!

Raised $1100 for Saint Monica House

Brady's would like to thank all of our customers for donating $1100 to Saint Monica House this Thanksgiving!

Brady's contributed $2 from every Thanksgiving turkey we sold, held a charity lunch on Friday, 15 October, 2010 and accepted cash donations at the store.

Saint Monica House provides professional support for single, pregnant women, young parents and their children through residential supported housing and community programs.
